Classic knife pins, also known as decorative pins for knives, are small metal pieces used to attach the handle to the blade. In addition to their structural function, they also play an aesthetic role, giving each knife an individual look.
Mechanical machining of decorative knife pins
It is recommended to process mechanically on abrasive belts with a gradation of 80 to 400, then manually with 600 to 3000 paper and hand polishing with polishing paste felt.
Epoxy resin retains its mechanical properties up to a temperature of 75°C, exceeding this value can cause the resin to shrink and, in extreme cases, flaking and chipping of the resin.
Therefore, the use of sharp, unused abrasive belts and low sanding speeds in the range of 10 - 15m/s and frequent cooling of the knife pin are recommended.
