DS93X™ Steel – A Unique Material for Professionals
DS93Xâ„¢ damascus steel is an innovative material based on powder metallurgy, combining the advantages of two advanced alloys: RWL34â„¢ and PMC27â„¢
The DS93X steel is produced using powder metallurgy, this technique, patented by Damasteel AB, guarantees the highest purity of the material, as well as its high hardness and strength. The raw material is also easy to work with, so it provides knifemakers with a high quality and perfect appearance of the final product. Damascus steel is also extremely resistant to corrosion, so it is ideal for knives that are to be used in kitchens or other environments full of humidity. Additionally, the Solid Steel Technologyâ„¢ used in DS93X steel ensures that every product made by the knifemaker is uniform.Â
What is Damasteel DS93Xâ„¢ "Cut-off"?
"Cut-off" is a single piece of DS93Xâ„¢ steel - ideal for making a small knife or other project. It is a full-quality piece of steel that comes from the full flat bar manufacturing process - it has the same properties, pattern and quality but is available at a lower price than cut-to-size steel.
We invite you to take a look at our offer, each piece of steel has its own individual pattern, by adding product to your basket you are buying the exact pattern shown in the picture.

RWL34™ – Strength and Hardness
RWL34â„¢ steel contains 1.05% carbon, 14% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 0.2% vanadium. This combination ensures high corrosion resistance, excellent edge retention, and mechanical strength, making it ideal for precision and durable blades.
PMC27™ – Ductility and Workability
PMC27â„¢ features 0.6% carbon and 13% chromium, offering corrosion resistance and greater flexibility compared to RWL34â„¢. This steel is easier to process, making it an excellent complement in layered materials like DS93Xâ„¢.
Hardness of DS93Xâ„¢ Steel After Heat Treatment
Hardening and Tempering
DS93X™ steel achieves varying levels of hardness depending on the heat treatment parameters. When hardened at 1050°C and tempered at 175°C for two hours, RWL34™ reaches 62 HRC, while PMC27™ achieves 54 HRC. At higher hardening temperatures, such as 1100°C, RWL34™ can reach up to 64 HRC, and PMC27™ up to 60 HRC, making it an excellent choice for high-quality blades.
Cryogenic Treatment for Enhanced Durability
Cryogenic treatment, involving cooling below -100°C (e.g., in liquid nitrogen), improves the martensitic structure of the steel, increasing its hardness and durability. While not mandatory, it is recommended for the most demanding applications.
Practical Applications of DS93Xâ„¢ Steel

Processing DS93X™ Steel – Practical Tips
Annealing and Hardening
Annealing at 910°C for two hours ensures the steel’s structure is ideal for further processing. Hardening in the range of 1050°C–1100°C guarantees maximum hardness and durability.
Etching the Damasteel® Pattern
The unique patterns of DS93Xâ„¢ can be accentuated through etching in a mixture of hydrochloric acid and ferric chloride. This process highlights the beauty of the pattern, creating contrast between the alloy layers.
